The RunSmart Training Group and Track Club is a running group that meets at RunTex Riverside (map) in Austin, Texas. Sessions are lead by Allan Besselink (the author of "RunSmart") and are based on the principles of the book. There is a special focus on running mechanics, intervals, drills, and individualized feedback. It has been in existence in various forms since 2002 and is Austin's best-kept running secret. The free Training Group session is held on Tuesdays, with the paid Track Club session held on Thursdays. Both sessions meet at RunTex at 5:45 pm and depart by 5:55. The free Training Group (Tuesday) is open to runners of all running paces, ages, skill and experience levels. Join us at RunTex, participate in a free group training session, and have fun in the process! There is a one mile run from RunTex to Fulmore Middle School. The session continues on the school track and is interval-based so you can do as little or as much as you like. The group then returns to RunTex. Everyone is welcome. The paid Track Club (Thursday) is a program that provides runners with an individualized training plan and workout structure, based on their goals, written for them in the context of the training group. Sessions will be interval-based. All running paces and experience levels are welcome. Members are urged to participate in the Tuesday sessions as well (for further guidance and coaching), though this is not mandatory. Track club members also receive discounts to a number of Austin-area services that promote the RunSmart approach, including RunTex, Smart Sport International, and others. The cost is $240 per year ($20 per month). The club is registered with USA Track and Field. RunSmart Track Club members can compete at USA Track and Field masters and open events.
